Versatile Furniture - Wooden Stools
Wooden stools can be used as functional seating or as part
of a decorative motif. They can be a great fit in any room of the house and
they can even be used outdoors! There are different sizes available to choose
from, as well as a great variety of colors and finishes. You
can also pick from different heights and styles to suit your needs.

In the kitchen, wooden stools are typically used as seating
at the counter or island. In the bathroom, one could be placed in the corner as
a primitive styled towel 'rack'. A smaller version functions as a step to help
a young child to reach the sink. Since they are the perfect size and shape to
slide under a dressing table, you will even find these in bedrooms. Outdoors,
they make a great whimsical addition to a flower garden. They are also nice to
set outside the backdoor as they make terrific resting areas when you are
trying to find your keys and hold an armload of groceries at the same time.
Wooden stools can be painted in a wide array of colors. You
will want to choose a color that pulls in other aspects of the area you are
using it in. For instance, if your bathroom is beige with hints of lavender,
you will want to have the stool painted lavender to pull in the accents from
other items. Outdoors, white is a nice color as it brightens up any area and
provides a stark contrast against the colors of nature. If you are looking for
something more neutral, you can always leave the stool in its natural state and
simply apply a coat of stain or lacquer to it. This will help bring out the
natural beauty of the wood grain, and it will blend with any décor.
When it comes to height, the stool you choose will greatly
depend on the use you have for it. A step stool will only need to be a few
inches in height while a bar stool is going to be much taller. Wooden stools
made for seating tend to start at 18" and go up to 36". Be sure to
get a good measurement of the surface you will be using the stool at. You want
the difference between the seat height and the surface height to be approximately
11 inches, give or take an inch or two either way.
There are other factors to take into consideration also. Do
you want the wooden stools to have swivel seats or should they be stationary?
They can be convenient for adults, but young children tend to want to play on
them and that could be dangerous. What about cushions? Some find that a stool
is more comfortable in its natural state while others like the softness of a
cushion, particularly if they will be seated for any length of time. Also, keep
in mind that you can find stools with or without backs. There are many things
to think about, but no worries; there is a variety out there to suit everyone!
